Victoria Falls

Supplied by the Zambezi River, which also forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, lie the famous Victoria Falls. The first European to visit them was David Livingstone. He described them as the most beautiful thing he has ever seen in Africa and indeed they are very impressive - in the rainy season. Then the water curtain is 1,7 km long, spray shoots upwards to several hundred meters and covers all in a thick mist. In the dry season, right now, a big part of the rocky face of the falls become dry and not that much water falls over the edge. That's the time to go rafting...

In Livingstone, a little town near the falls on the Zambian side I met Dan and Manu. They also travel together through Africa on their bicycles, interesting story how that happened to be. Dan started his trip from London with a friend, in Ethiopia they did some volunteer work and split up sometime later. He then had to go back to England for medical treatment and while there met Manu. He fell in love, she bought a bike and soon they rejoint in Kenia. Since then they traveled for 17 months and covered many countries and thousands of kilometer.

They just arrived in town and I was about to leave, but we got into a conversation and I decided to stay for a extra day. We got along very well and one day became five days. I also changed my travel plans and decided to join them on their ride through Zimbabwe. But first Dan came up with a different idea: Let's go Rafting! That's nice if you have friends along, alone it wouldn't be so cool. We went for a full day and it was awesome, we had so much fun. It was even quiet a lot rougher than I had exepted!
