By far the best thing in Africa is the uncomparable abundance of wildlife. Most of it will be found inside the parks, but in some parts of Africa animals are still roaming beyond any boundaries. Sadly, the best parks aren't accessible by bicycle. Exceptions are if there's a main through-road, then they'll let you pass. During daytime it's more or less safe, although I got told by locals they have seen a bunch of lions by the side of the road just a week ago. In Botswana I wanted to go through some remote parks meaning I had for the first time to get a lift. It proofed not to be to difficult to find a vehicle that is willing and able to take me and my bike along.
By the way, I don't understand why Kenia and especially Tansania are the primary Safari destinations. Unnatural, with a zoo like feeling and park fees and regulations which only can be described as insane! Also the locals, as long as you're not far of the beaten track, are spoiled and crooks. Why not go to Zambia? There's still a lot untouched wild bush left where real natives live in little villages side by side with the animals, although sometimes they get too close. Or Botswana? More developed but still able to offer African bush experience at it's best. Besides, the prices are fair and the people friendly.
